Farukh Ruzimatov - a star of the world ballet, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation (1995), the People's Artist of the Russian Federation (2000), laureate of international ballet competitions.
Farukh Ruzimatov was born on June 26th 1963 in Tashkent. He graduated from the Vaganova Ballet Academy (class of Gennady Selyutsky). In 1981 he enters the Mariinsky Theatre Company, becomes the premier dancer (1986) and performs the leading parts in almost all ballets of the classical repertoire such as:
"La Sylphide" (James); "Giselle"(Albert); "Bayadere" (Solor); "Corsair" (Ali); "Sleeping Beauty" (Dezire Prince); " The Nutcracker" (Prince); Grand Pas "Pahita", " The Swan Lake" (Zigfrid); "Don Kixote" (Bazil); "Raymonda" (Abderahman); Grand Pas Classique (Ober); the ballets of M. Fokin such as "Chopiniana", "Shekherazada" (The Gold Slave), "The Vision of Rosa"; "The legend about Love" (Ferhad); Vinogradov's ballet "The Knight in Tiger Skin" (Tariel); Balanchin's ballets "Theme and Variations", "Apollo", " The Prodigal Son"; Rolan Petit's ballets "Carmen" (Jose), "The Youth and the Death", etc.
His artistic palette is saturated with blazing colors. He is attracted by dramatic, contradictory, mystic heroes; his stage personalities are strong, passionate, and challenge the fate.
Among his last works ballets "Grigory Rasputin" by St. Petersburg choreographer Georgy Kovtun, "Suspiro de Ispania", staged in flamenco style by a Spanish dancer and choreographer Ricardo Castro, "Goya-Divertissement" by Spanish choreographer Jose Antonio specially for F. Ruzimatov.
Farukh Ruzimatov's projects are successfully held in Russia and abroad. In Japan and the USA, where he has become an icon for the ballet lovers, his every coming becomes a significant event in the theatrical life. In 1990-1991 he cooperated with American Ballet Theatre as the invited principle dancer.
Farukh Ruzimatov stared in the following films: "Grand Pas at a White Night", "White nights"; "Egyptian Nights", a film based on Fokin's choreographic ballet drafts. The films "If the Stars are Lighted", "Everything is fine" are devoted to the work of Farukh Ruzimatov as the artist. Furthermore Ruzimatov participated in drama performances "Idiot" (2001), "Crowned by God" (2002) about V. Nijinsky, "You, Mozart, God!" (2003).
He has been awarded with Silver Prize at the 6th International Ballet Competition in Varna (1983), special diploma of Paris Dance Academy at the International competition for ballet artists (1984), Laureate of the St. Petersburg highest theatrical award "Golden Sofit" (1995), the "Baltica" prize (1998), "Golden mask"; chevalier of the Order "For the Spiritual Renaissance of Russia".
In May 2007 Farukh Ruzimatov was appointed artistic director of the ballet company of the St. Petersburg State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre named after M. P. Musorgsky - the Mikhailovsky Theatre.
