We are pleased to announce that from February 11th to 17th the Farukh Ruzimatov Foundation ‘The Renaissance of the Dance Art’ organizes the ballet master-class of Gilbert Mayer, principle dancer and professor of Opera National de Paris, art-director, historian, and theoretician of dance. The master-class will be held at the St. Petersburg State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater named after M.P. Musorgsky – the Mikhailovsky Theater. The master-class will be principally intended for the male dancers as the target group.
The open master-class of Gilbert Mayer for the artists of the Mikhailovsky will be held on the stage on February 16th.
Everyone wishing to participate is welcome to join the class. The master-class starts at 11:30 a.m.
About Gilbert Mayer
Gilbert Mayer was born on November 3rd 1934 in Geneve. There he starts studying ballet; however throughout his career he has mostly been affiliated with Opera National de Paris.
From 1948 to 1951 Gilbert Mayer studies at the School of Paris Opera Ballet. In 1955 he becomes Grand Sujet at Opera National de Paris and in 1961 he is named Premier Danseur Classique. From that time on he performs the leading roles of the theater’s repertoire. From 1970 over 30 years Gilbert Mayer has been working as a professor with Corps de Ballet and l’Ecole de Danse. As the invited professor he also cooperates with many theaters including Royal Academy of Dance in London, National Ballet in Marseille, Bejart Ballet Lauseanne, the Hamburg Ballet, London Festival Ballet, Australian Ballet, National Ballet in China, The Latvian National Opera in Riga, Norwegian National Ballet, and many others.
Throughout his career Gilbert Mayer has been working as a choreographer, artistic director, dance historian and theoretician, author of teaching programs, producer at the French television.
Gilbert Mayer holds awards such as Chevalier dans l’Ordre National de la Legion d’Honneur, Commandeur des Arts et des Lettres, Officier der Palmes Academiques, and Medaille de Vermeil de la Ville de Paris.
